A Little Help From Our Friends January 1, 2008
Who is denturitry’s worse enemy? When determining the fate of the profession, that is a question that each dental technician and denturist must personally answer. In other words, the profession is as alive and well as each of us want to make it. A handful of denturists are working tirelessly in a few states. Of course, you can find out what states they are by logging onto www.DenturistInsight.com. One of these states is being seriously overlooked!
In 2006 Gary Vollan filed an initiative petition in the state of Wyoming that can put denturist licensing on the state ballot for public vote. 35,000 signatures are required to get the issue on the 2010 Wyoming general election ballot. September 2008 is the deadline for the last of these signatures to be turned in. Gary has managed to collect 9,000 signatures so far, with a remaining 26,000 needed. At the rate Gary is going, he will not possibly meet the deadline. Most of us would never care to practice in Wyoming. However, in order for denturist licensing to come to our state, it is essential that states like Wyoming pave the way. Once on the ballot the vote will be sure to be a landslide. What does it take to gather the remaining 26,000 signatures? How may each one of us help?
It either takes money or bodies to gather signatures. It has to be done in an organized fashion. Gary already has support pertaining to the strategy. Gary has already proved his ability by gathering 9,000 signatures, however he is only one person. In order to get the job done, he needs resources. He either needs signature-gathers or money to hire individuals to gather signatures. If you live in Wyoming, Gary can teach you how to gather 2000-5000 signatures within three months time. It is certainly worth the effort – ask any licensed denturist.
A professional initiative signature-gathering firm would charge over $75,000 to finish the job. He was doing well without help until the state of Wyoming shut his denturist practice down. Now, he is tied to a fulltime job. However, with his extra time, Gary can still finish the job with a modest $25,000. If dental technicians and denturists in each of the fifty states send only $500 to the Wyoming State Denturist Association (WSDA), Gary would have enough to complete the job.
I am going to personally initiate the campaign by sending Gary a $500 check for the State of Pennsylvania. Please make all checks Payable to WSDA. I want to be able to make a monthly report on how much we send to Wyoming and as to what states have contributed – for monthly progress, check back to www.DenturistInsight.com. In order to do this, I will need the checks to be sent to the ADS, however make your check out to WSDA. Inquires or questions will be answered by e-mail – editor@denturistinsight.com
