The United States Set Aflame
The vast demand - Dentistry admits that it is failing to meet the public's needs and that it will not have a solution for at least another twenty years. They admit that dentists do not have adequate denture care training. Furthermore, they are not required to do denture procedures on the practical section of their regional board examinations for state licensure. According to the 2000 Surgeon General's report, there is a serious shortage of dentists. According to the report, 15% of the U.S. population does not have access to dental care. With such a denture care shortage, legislators are looking for ways to fill the need. Governmental Solutions - 37 States have serious fiscal budget problems. Legislators, including state governors, are looking for realistic ways to cut spending without completely eliminating critically needed health care. Government reports show that licensed denturist practice will save millions of dollars in state Medicaid and millions more on acid reflux medications that are abundantly dispensed to the elderly who-due to ill-fitting dentures- cannot chew their food properly. Supply and demand clearly indicates that the denturist profession is the only logical solution to the public's denture needs. Denturists are the most comprehensively trained professionals to meet the public's denture needs. Denturists are already trained and have proven to be educated at a much lower cost than dentists in the area of denture care. Currently there are about eighteen million denture wearers in need of new dentures or who are wearing ill-fitting dentures. Due to a lack of denture care access, denture wearers are patronizing unregulated denturist practices in unprecedented numbers. The denturist track record
of six states obviously indicates that they are the only profession that
can meet the public's denture care needs. In Maine, there hasn't been
one single denture complaint filed against a denturist since the profession's
establishment in 1996. Meanwhile dentistry's complaints to the Maine Board
of Dental Examiners are mounting at a rate of about one hundred complaints
per year. And in thirty years of both licensed and unlicensed practice
in the U.S. not one single piece of evidence has ever been found where
a denturist has ever harmed a patient. (continued on next page) Denturitry has proved to be the right ingredient at the right time. It is rapidly on the move and very popular. The denturist profession has been recognized as the ultimate profession to fill the United States denture care access dilemma. One state after another is introducing legislation. As this article is being written, another denturist has been appointed to the ADS legislative team and another is being considered, bringing the number to fifteen and growing by the week. We invite all denture technicians to climb aboard. There are three types of people. Those that make things happen, those that watch things happen and those that after progress has been made who say, "what happened." We especially don't want you to be like those in the third group. So, it is important that you make sure to take full advantage of the never to be repeated opportunity while there is yet time. Get into the profession at the current entry level.
